How voucher codes actually work on MikroTik

There is no separate voucher feature in RouterOS. A voucher is a hotspot user — a username and password — attached to a user profile that defines the package: how fast, how long, how many devices at once. Generate a hundred of those users, print the credentials, and you have a hundred vouchers. Everything beyond that is workflow: producing them in batches instead of one at a time, laying them out on paper, tracking sales, and repeating it on the next router. That workflow is the entire difference between a hobby setup and a WiFi business.

Packages are user profiles

Create one hotspot user profile per package — 1 day at 2 Mbps, 7 days at 4 Mbps, 30 days unlimited — with rate limit, session timeout and shared-users set. Every voucher you generate points at one of these, so pricing and speed changes happen in one place, not on a thousand individual users.

Generate and print in batches

Produce hundreds of codes at once with a chosen length, prefix and character set, then print them on A4 in a layout that fits your scissors — or export the batch as a PDF. Custom templates let you put your shop name, price and WiFi SSID on every voucher so customers know what they bought.

Sell over WhatsApp

Can I generate MikroTik vouchers without extra software?

Yes — User Manager on RouterOS creates users in bulk, and it is free. Where it stops is everything after generation: there is no printable voucher layout, no PDF export, no WhatsApp delivery, no sales tracking, and no view across multiple routers. For one router and a handful of codes it is enough. For a shop selling daily it becomes the bottleneck.

How is this different from Mikhmon?

Mikhmon does voucher generation and printing well, and it is free — but it runs on a PC or phone that has to stay on, reachable, and connected to each router. If that machine is off, the panel is gone. MikroMan runs in the cloud, so the same vouchers, templates and reports are available from any browser, on any device, with several routers side by side and staff accounts with their own permissions.

What length and format should voucher codes be?

Short enough to type on a phone keyboard — six to eight characters is the usual balance. Avoid ambiguous characters: 0 and O, 1 and l and I look identical on a printed slip and cause support calls. A per-batch prefix (for example SHOP1-) makes it obvious which shop or reseller a code came from when someone brings back a used voucher.

Can vouchers work across several routers?

Each hotspot authenticates against its own router, so a code generated on one router works on that router. What you want across shops is one place to generate, print and track them all — which is what a cloud panel gives you. Every batch stays tagged with the router it belongs to, and sales reports combine them.

How should I price WiFi packages?

Start with the shortest package your customers actually want — an hour or a day — and price it against what a mobile data bundle costs them locally. Longer packages should be cheaper per day, so a week costs less than seven single days. Watch which profile sells most in your reports after a few weeks and adjust; the data tells you faster than guessing.

What happens when a voucher expires?

The session timeout on the user profile ends the session, and the user can no longer log in with that code. Expired codes stay visible in your records so you can tell the difference between a code that was never sold and one that was used up — which matters when a reseller settles up with you.

Can staff or resellers generate vouchers without my admin login?

Yes. Create a staff account with only the permissions you want — generate vouchers on one router, print, and nothing else. They never see your router credentials, your other shops, or the billing side. This is how most multi-shop operators run it: one owner account, several limited reseller logins.

Do I need a public IP to run a voucher system?

No. The vouchers live on the router and your customers connect locally over WiFi. Managing that router from a cloud panel is what would normally need a public IP — and MikroMan handles routers behind CGNAT through a built-in VPN tunnel, so a router with no public IP works the same as one with.
